First Year Anniversary

According to the “experts”, the traditional gift for a first anniversary is Paper – said to represent strength.  This isn’t our first wedding anniversary (we passed that milestone many moons ago!). But a gift, representing strength to celebrate our first anniversary owning and operating the Seal Cove Inn, is appropriate!  I'm sure that we are no different than millions of other entrepreneurs who tackled their first venture. We had zeal and enthusiasm and were certain that we were well prepared with plans for every possibility. Of course, that is not likely – or even probable!  Yes, there have been bumps, bruises and tears (sorry to say). There have been more “teachable” moments than we’d like to admit.  But there has also been joy and newfound friendships. We have discovered what it means to belong to a small town community. We now understand the satisfaction derived each day from knowing you are only accountable to your guests, your employees and your community and not “The Man”!

We are blessed to be able to do what we do. We are thankful beyond words to those that have supported us. Support came in many forms. Some folks gave the new guys a chance and stayed here (and came back!). Our employees worked tirelessly by our sides. New friends and business colleagues offered advice and encouragement. And understanding family members, don’t hear from us as often as they used to, but understand why.  You are all important to us and to the continued success and growth of our business.  THANK YOU!

We look back on the last year and it is quite literally a blur.  On the eve of taking over the inn, a wise advisor told us to be sure to stop, breathe and savor the moment.  Well, we never took that advice, but our goal for the next year is to savor as many moments as possible.  Moments like talking to our guests and getting to know them on a far more personal level. That is the type of moment that reminds us of why we got in to this business in the first place.

At Seal Cove Inn, our guests create memories in many different ways. It could be by exploring our beautiful gardens and coastline. Or finding a quiet moment as a couple. Or discovering a great day trip, special event or local restaurant. It could even be indulging in a decadent vacation-only breakfast, or simply meeting other guests over a glass of wine and forging new friendships.  We are proud to have contributed to creating those unique moments for many, many people.  Even in the blur that was last year, we recognize how special this place can be.

As we look forward, we’re excited about what the future holds.  Our new wedding and elopement packages offer the opportunity for brides and grooms to create a unique, intimate experience for their special day that will evoke fond memories for a lifetime.  We also hope that they will return to celebrate anniversaries at the place where it all began – and for their first anniversary, we’ll be sure to have a gift of Paper to remind them that strength is sometimes required to get through the tough moments – but the journey together is what makes it all worthwhile!  We hope you’ll continue to share in our journey as well by returning to Seal Cove Inn again and again!

Sincerely -

Kelly & John Dayan
