History of Seal Cove Inn
Originally built by renowned travel guide author Karen (Brown) Herbert and her husband Rick, the Inn first opened for guests in 1991. Karen and Rick had spent many years reviewing bed-and-breakfast inns for her popular guidebook series, and in the late 1980s, they broke ground on the Seal Cove Inn combining ideas collected from the many outstanding inns they had visited in their travels around the world. From concept to completion, the inn was constructed with careful consideration of every detail, from the serene coastal site, to the layout of the guestrooms and the delightful garden. Reminiscent of a European country inn, each guestroom at Seal Cove Inn is oriented toward the water, with sliding doors that allow guests to hear waves crashing just beyond the Cypress grove.
The Herberts ran the inn until late in 2006 when a Silicon Valley software developer purchased the inn and hired a management company to run the property under their brand. In May of 2013, the Inn was purchased by its third and current owners, Kelly and John Dayan, who are once again running the property themselves as an independent boutique inn. The Dayans also have roots in Silicon Valley – with one of the largest and most esteemed technology companies, but Kelly left behind her management career to pursue her dream of owning a business that combines all of the best aspects of hospitality - luxury accommodations, gourmet food and special events!
